Magh Bihu 2026 Overview

Magh Bihu 2026, popularly known as Bhogali Bihu, will be celebrated on across Assam. It marks the completion of the harvest season and reflects themes of abundance, gratitude, and community bonding.

The celebrations begin on the eve of Magh Bihu with Uruka, when families and communities prepare traditional meals and spend the night together near temporary huts known as Bhelaghar.

On the main day of Magh Bihu, people light ceremonial fires called Meji and offer prayers, symbolizing thanksgiving and renewal. Traditional food items made from rice, sesame, and jaggery are prepared and shared.

Magh Bihu highlights Assam’s agrarian culture and reinforces social harmony through shared rituals, feasts, and festive gatherings.
